Help & FAQ
Answers to the questions parents ask most about enrolling a Mac, setting limits, granting extra time, and managing an account. Still stuck? Contact us and we'll help with setup.
- How do I set up TempoMinder on my child's Mac?
- Create a parent account and generate an enrollment code in your dashboard. Download the installer from the Downloads page, run it on the child's Mac (macOS 13 Ventura or newer), and enter the code. You will need an admin password on first launch to grant permission, after which the agent runs quietly in the background and starts reporting activity right away.
- Does TempoMinder need iCloud or Apple Screen Time?
- No. TempoMinder is independent of iCloud and Apple Screen Time. Each enrolled Mac syncs with your dashboard directly and enforces its own limits locally, so you can manage limits from anywhere without signing into iCloud or sitting at the child's computer.
- How do I set a daily limit for an app?
- In the parent dashboard, pick the apps you want to limit and set a daily allowance plus a warning threshold for each. The Mac tracks which apps are in the foreground, applies your limits, and shows a warning before time runs out. Policy changes are signed and synced back to the Mac.
- Can I give my child extra time?
- Yes. Grant a temporary extra-time override from your dashboard at any time and it syncs to the Mac. When the Mac cannot reach the internet, you can read out an offline emergency code instead — codes are shown only in your dashboard, and the Mac verifies them against signed code hashes it already holds.
- What does TempoMinder record about my child?
- Only the minimum needed to enforce limits: which app was in the foreground and for how long, when warnings appeared and apps were closed, and when the Mac last synced. It never captures screenshots, keystrokes, clipboard contents, window titles, URLs, or browsing history, and it does not provide website blocking.
- How many Macs can one family manage?
- One family can enroll up to 5 Macs. The Free plan lets you view today's foreground app activity for all of them; Premium adds per-app daily limits, warning thresholds, and extra-time overrides for the same 5 Macs at no per-device fee.
- What happens when the free trial ends?
- Premium is free for 14 days with no credit card required. If you don't subscribe, your account drops to the Free plan: you keep the dashboard and usage history, and the limits you set during the trial pause until you upgrade. Premium is $4.99 per month or $49 per year.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
- Cancel from your dashboard at any time. Monthly plans stop at the end of the current month and annual plans stop at the end of the paid year. You won't be charged if you cancel during the 14-day trial.
- Which platforms does TempoMinder support?
- TempoMinder is Mac-only for now, with a universal installer for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 13 Ventura or newer. iPhone, iPad, and Windows support are on the roadmap — join the waitlist to vote for what comes next.
